Smart chemists only ! Help with the following thermochemistry questions please ?

Probably at least high school level (12th grade) or maybe a first course in college general chemistry, but clearly a homework or test question copied verbatim. Am I right? Why would a "smart" chemist take the time to look up all those formation enthalpy data (usually in the appendix of your book) and do the tedious math for the combustion of the chemicals for you? Read the chapter look at the pictures of the calorimeter and bomb apparatus. Think about how all this relates to the energy diagrams. Where is the heat going? Where does the energy come from. Understanding this subject matter even at the high school level makes you smart! Smarter than most. Another thing you can do is look through all the yahoo questions and answers on global warming and going green. When you see how many idiots are out there, you will appreciate more those who make the effort and learn the science. I know its tough. Hang in there, its worth it
